Zimbabwean media personality and actress Tinopona Katsande has raised alarm over what she describes as a silent "genocide" taking place in the country's hospitals. In a heartfelt post shared on her Facebook page, Katsande expressed deep dismay at the worsening healthcare situation, citing the increasing number of deaths due to lack of medical supplies, poor patient care, and systemic neglect.
A cancer survivor herself, Katsande's words carry the weight of personal experience with Zimbabwe’s fragile healthcare system. She described heartbreaking scenes of patients left unattended, essential medicines being unavailable, and preventable deaths occurring daily. "This is not just negligence — this is genocide," she wrote. "Our people are dying not because they should, but because the system is broken beyond measure."
Katsande’s comments have sparked widespread discussion among Zimbabweans both at home and abroad, many of whom echoed her concerns about the country's healthcare collapse. Years of economic hardship, political instability, and underfunding have left Zimbabwe's health sector in critical condition, with many hospitals operating without basic supplies like gloves, syringes, and even clean water.
As someone who battled and overcame cancer, Katsande emphasized the urgency of reforming the healthcare system, warning that many more lives will be needlessly lost if immediate action is not taken.
